Michael Neary addresses R.I. congressional race, criminal charges - The Boston Globe 04/14/2022

Columbus, OH - Neary For All released the following statement from Michael Neary, candidate for the Democratic nomination in Rhode Island's Second Congressional District, regarding the continuation of his candidacy and recent events.

Said Neary, "I am announcing today that I will remain a candidate in the race for the Democratic nomination in Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District, all the way to the September primary.

I will always be an advocate on behalf of all our fellow Rhode Islanders.

I know there are many questions surrounding recent news reports, and a full statement will be forthcoming in the coming days.

Our campaign will also be planning to host a virtual conference to answer additional questions from members of the press at that time.

I am currently seeking medical and mental health treatment and have been referred to a Neurologist for a possible non-Epileptic seizure-related condition.

This is also the first time I have ever been arrested in my entire life, so I am also focused on addressing the Misdemeanor charges here in Ohio. Steps have been taken to retain legal counsel as those matters continue to be handled in our criminal justice system.

While these have been a difficult few weeks for our family as we deal with various private matters together, the stories we have heard from Rhode Islanders about the problems they are facing in their everyday lives over the last several months is my only motivation to continue this campaign.

We may have one of the smallest bank accounts compared to others in this race, but our work is far from over.

I have nothing but respect for our fellow candidates who have been attending the forums, St. Patrick Day parades and the various other public events that have taken place thus far in this race.

We have enjoyed meeting and speaking with Ms. Fox, Dr. Bah, Mr. Pacheco and Mr. Moquin, who has also shared his own personal story with these serious matters in recent days.

Every single one of these individuals have represented all that Rhode Island has to offer despite our own individual campaigns for this solemn responsibility on behalf of every citizen of the Second District.

As far as we are concerned though unfortunately, millionaires and special interest groups with no serious connection to Rhode Island or our Second District are trying to purchase themselves a seat in the United States House of Representatives.

And those who we specifically mentioned above are the only candidates who we have met who share the same values as our own movement and we will keep engaging with all who are continuing to seek this office going forward.

Most importantly, we will never forget all the Rhode Islanders who have opened up to us over these last several months about their own life experiences and the shared pain that many of us have all realized throughout different points in our lives.

Whether it be about the lack of good paying jobs, healthcare, housing, or the constant worry about being able to provide for their own children, our movement is committed to focusing on all these issues at both home and abroad, including the Genocide in Ukraine that continues to this day.

I do intend to share so much more in the coming days and weeks ahead. I look forward to returning to work for Rhode Island, our fellow Americans, and all of us in the Second District, the community that has always been my home."
