Wonder Dogs

Quite possibly the best socialization video we’ve ever seen! It’s a dense topic, often done incorrectly, and misunderstood. But this is a GREAT overview!!

What would we change?

🐾 “go at your dogs pace” 👉yes, AND respect their choices. Let them choose and learn from their choices. It’s ok if they make mistakes. This prevents learned helplessness. You also support recovery and resiliency skills.

🐕 “human characteristics that cause problems” 👉 yes, AND let’s add:
-extra energetic or loud
-humans with wheels (bikes, wheelchairs, skateboards etc)
-small children, ESPECIALLY ages 1-5 years old.

🐶 “positive exposure using food or play” 👉 we see a lot of problem dogs that people tried to fix with food. It doesn’t always work!!! While the word “treats” is probably said five million times a day at Wonder Dogs, there are FIVE easy-to-use positive reinforcers: food, play, space, safety and choice.
