Being the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13) means we are different from the world, not quarantined from the world.
Views of Christian holiness that stress our difference from the world, without also emphasizing our service to the world, make us ineffective witnesses of Christ.
Christian holiness was always meant to be contagious. We are healing agents who go where the world is dark to bring the light of Christ.
Stay salty! (Matthew 5:13)
Salt benefits meat by staying salt; in the same way, Christians serve the world best when we are distinctively Christian.
This means that in a world of division, we are called to be unifiers. In a world of hatred, we are to embody love. In a world where power is wielded to bully others, we use power to serve others.
Our distinction from the ways of this world is how we witness to the new life of Jesus and invite others to participate in it.
Lamentations 3:22-23
Because of the LORD’S faithful love we do not perish,
for His mercies never end. They are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness!
