Sanderlings are extraordinary migrants. Breeding adults will fly thousands of miles to the Artic breeding grounds in the summer. Some will migrate from as far south as Chile all the way to the Arctic in the summer. Non-breeding adults may choose to save energy and stay in their winter coastal areas all year long.

They can be found skittering across coastal beaches all over the world probing the sand for sand crabs and other crustaceans, and then retreating as a wave advances. Come see these magnificent little birds at the Silver Strand State Beach this winter.

We usually think of the Great Egret as a bird that stalks small fish, but it will also stalk mice and lizards as part of its diet. 🦎

Come visit Silver Strand State Beach to spot amazing animals such as this Great Egret! 🦀🐡🐋
