The Copperopolis Community Center board and volunteers guided the Copperopolis Elementary 2nd graders on an historic walk of their own town. The tour began on the school grounds hearing about the historic school bell and cannon, then moved next door to Copper Park where they learned about the Madam Felix mining district and the notorious bandit, Black Bart. Further down Main Street, the 2nd graders stopped in front of the town's sample of a shive wheel and ore bucket used in the mines across the street. The fire department came out and gave a small lecture on fire safety and what to do in case of a fire, along with a demonstration on how fast and what equipment firemen have to put on when responding to a fire. Fun!. The tour ended at the 1866 historic gothic-style church with singing old mining songs. A great day with great weather! Thank you volunteers.
