June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the lasting effects of trauma and the many people whose lives are impacted by it.
For survivors of domestic violence, trauma is often the result of repeated experiences of fear, control, intimidation, and abuse. Even after the abuse has ended, the effects can remain. PTSD may include symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, and challenges with trust and relationships.
This month, we observe the strength and resilience of survivors while bringing attention to the realities of living with PTSD. By raising awareness and fostering compassionate, trauma-informed communities, we can help create spaces where survivors feel supported and understood.

Leaving an abusive relationship is rarely as simple as walking away. Fear, isolation, finances, love, trauma, children, and safety all play a role. Instead of asking βWhy doesnβt she just leave?, ask 'How can I support her safely and without judgment?β
Compassion can make the difference between feeling trapped and finding a way out.
