The state of Texas signed its first universal school voucher program into law on May 3, 2025. The bill allows families to use taxpayer dollars to fund their children’s education at a private school or to pay for a wide range of school-related expenses.

Despite supporters of the bill claiming this will give families more freedom to get the education their child needs, many critics have pointed out negative effects on public schools and potential state budget deficits among the many issues of the new program.

Judson High School choir held their annual end of the year Rocket R***e on Friday, May 15, with this year’s theme being “Don’t Stop Believing.” With guests ranging from Judson alumni and teachers to family and friends, the community gathered to observe the hard work put in by the choir department this year.

The event also served as closure for senior students, who showcased their final performances at Judson High School.

Seniors Kevin Nguyen and Waylon Arriola performed “Hall of Fame” by Stray Kids together.
Nguyen reflected on his friendship with Arriola, stating, “Doing ‘Hall of Fame’ with Waylon was an absolute honor and I can’t believe that I actually got to finish my entire twelve years of school with my day one.”

Yesterday after school, Señora Jacqueline Brinson held a horchata making lesson, inviting both the Spanish Honor Society and students from her Spanish classes. Horchata is a beverage popular in Mexico and Spain made from rice, cinnamon and milk (or other alternatives).

The lesson started off with everyone grabbing a piece of paper with the recipe on it, and eating some snacks that Brinson provided. Brinson then started her lesson, with a live demonstration from a volunteer. At the end many students got to try the horchata.

According to Brinson, her horchata is unique because “It is well made, with good ingredients and love and care.”
