How to Know When a TV Lamp Needs to Be Replaced

Power on the television. If it takes longer than usual for the TV image to appear, the lamp may be beginning to fail.

Watch the picture on the screen. If the screen starts extremely dark when you first turn on the TV and it takes several minutes for the television to reach its standard brightness, it is a sign that your lamp is on its way out.

Inspect the image. If it is not as bright as it once was, it is most likely due to the lamp beginning to fail.

Turn off your television. If it takes a while for the image to disappear after you power down your television, it is due to the age of the TV's lamp.
