Recognizing Symptoms of Different Heat Illnesses
Understanding the seriousness of heat-related illnesses and recognizing symptoms as soon as possible is integral to safely enjoying summer.
Familiarize yourself with the following signs of various heat-related illnesses:
Heat rash—These may appear as clusters of red bumps on your skin, often on your neck, chest, and skin folds.
Heat syncope—This heat-related illness is typically observed through fainting or dizziness.
Heat cramps—Symptoms of heat cramps often manifest as muscle spasms or pain, usually in the legs, arms, or torso.
Heat exhaustion—Those suffering from heat exhaustion may experience fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, heavy sweating, lightheadedness, elevated body temperature, or increased heart rate.
Heat stroke—This is a life-threatening type of heat-related illness and may be indicated through confusion, slurred speech, hot and dry skin, extreme body temperature, rapid heart rate, seizures, and loss of consciousness.
