I’ve been meeting with and talking to , the best people in the city here. Big hat tip to my friends Ray Gladys Jones—yesterday I met Ani Mwalimu who knows my sister Hilary Beard from Philadelphia there, after having had a Zoom meeting with retired historic consultant Nancy Recchie and my cousin Brendan Jennings discussing historic Lakeview , Illinois —my mother’s hometown settled by our relatives as a freedman’s community in the 1820’s. This place is where the best conversations go down .

And…we’re back! Still working at the Hot Times in Olde Towne Festival to get petition signatures for fair rents in Columbus. This is likely the last festival for the petition, so come on down, learn more about it, and sign on in support. Everybody who learns about it loves it. (Well… except the wealthy property owners who have our community in a vise and are driving us out.) Come down and sign to help get this on the ballot. We create a safe harbor for landlords offering fair rents. Those who don’t will be heavily taxed, May be sued, May be called a bad name “predator,” and may be driven from the market. Stand up for your neighbors. Come sign today or tomorrow.

Just left the city’s housing forum. The same group that presided over the under building of housing over the past 15 years and defunded nonprofit housing development organizations that were actually developing affordable housing doesn’t have a word to say about the fair rent solution proposed by informed citizens. They are consciously allowing rents to go up.
