It teaches citizens how to help themselves by identifying and reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. In addition, it provides citizens with the opportunity to make their neighborhoods safer and improve the quality of life. Neighborhood Watch groups typically focus on observation and awareness as a means of preventing crime and employ strategies that range from simply promoting social interaction and "watching out for each other" to active patrols by groups of citizens
From the Lithopolis Police:
Over the past few weeks, Canal WI******er and Bloom Township have seen a sharp increase in property crimes, to include burglary, theft, and stolen vehicles. Several of these incidents have been occurring in the overnight hours, and include occupied residences being entered. It is a only a matter of time before we start seeing more of these crimes in our community.
We are urging residents to follow these safety tips:
Remove all valuables from your vehicles.
If you park outside, remove garage door openers from your vehicles.
Keep all your doors and windows closed and locked, including garage doors and pass-through doors.
If you have an alarm system, use it. Make sure garage doors and windows are equipped with sensors.
Make sure outdoor lights, including motion sensor lights, are operational.
If you see suspicious vehicles or activity, report it right away. The Lithopolis Police are dispatched through the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office. They can be contacted at 740-652-7911, or 911 in case of emergency.
