It's National Baseball Day, and we're looking at the part of the pitch most people never see.

Peak braking force at foot plant. Mediolateral forces through arm acceleration. Knee flexion angle at release. These are not visible to the naked eye, but they are among the strongest indicators of pitch velocity and mechanical efficiency.

Force plate data does not replace coaching. It gives coaches something more precise to work with for better decisions.

Controlling cognitive load is standard in research. In practice, measuring balance response while you do it is harder to replicate.

Pairing immersive visual perturbation with simultaneous ground reaction force capture lets you increase task complexity in a controlled, repeatable way. Center of pressure data reflects how the body actually manages competing demands, not just how it performs in isolation.

That distinction matters for clinical decisions and for research validity.

Opening Day is a reminder of how much force and sequencing go into a single pitch.

At American Baseball Coaches Association, we partnered with Swing Catalyst to capture how ground reaction force data and video analysis break down each phase of the pitching motion in real time, revealing insights into performance, efficiency, and untapped potential.
