“What if my toddler won’t sit still?”
I have gotten this question quite a few times over the years.
I can confidently respond every time, “they don’t have to.”
Posed family photos are great don’t get me wrong, but when I am working with a family and really getting into my workflow during a session I am not looking for those perfectly posed moments. I’m looking for the in between moments. Where the light is just right and framing more real moments. Where your toddler is wiggly and distracted by a lady bug who found its way in, but that light across your brand new babes face is just too perfect.
I’m all for the toddlers who don’t sit still and are just being themselves in the moment. The saying rings true, it just goes by too fast. Slow down where you can and savor the moment. This is what I love about my newborn sessions, even if briefly, families are slowing down and just soaking in the moment, whether it be the hushed quiet of a first baby; or the chaos that is a new baby with a toddler and dividing your attention is new. In here, all that matters is showing up as you are.
