The Bad Button

This heat has me absolutely wilted. Being extremely sensitive to temperature and sunlight means that I've spent most of this week essentially living in darkness like a vampire. I guess it's appropriate then to share these happy little bats! I haven't made a version like this in several years, so it was fun to play around with the fabric. I also have it in a grey and a mauve color way, and I've been considering making a small run of something similar again. Folks who have followed me for years might recognize this from a while back, when I made it with spiders embroidered on the casings.

Occasionally, I get a little sad over a commission, and this was one of them. It's not that I was sad about the clients (lovely people!), or about how it was made to measure, but it was instead about how this was some of the last of my stash of the rosebud coutil that has been a standby for many corset makers over the years.

I still have it in red and black, just enough for a full size run of standard underbust corsets, but I have run out of my stash of all other color ways and it just feels a bit like the end of an era. Though that means I should probably move on to using all of the other fabric I have here in the studio!

You know it's show season and that you've been burning the midnight oil when you can't remember when you made a piece and what show it sold at!

Pretty certain this one was a 28" waist, and I really liked it because it has a lot more muted colors than most of the vintage tomesode kimono that I've been working through. I tend to see a lot more bright orange and not this burnt sienna, plus it's got those pretty greens and gold too. Very autumn colors!

I've got another kimono that has a similar feel that I have on the pile to make for another slow, but today is for catching up!
