This topic is a bit lengthy and I wanted to go into detail for each type so I broke it up into a few parts.

A film is only as good as its audio. At Cannon Productions, one of our favorite sayings is: AUDIO IS KING! 👑

There is no one-size-fits-all solution when recording audio on a film set. You will likely want to bring a good assortment of lavs and shotgun mics to accommodate different shooting scenarios on set.

There are six essential microphone pickup patterns that every filmmaker should know:
Omnidirectional
Cardioid
Hypercardioid
Supercardioid
Lobar
Bidirectional
