Truly one of my greatest passions is seeing the beauty in natural materials. Whether we’re looking at natural stone, wood, or metals, there is so much more character and life than meets the eye. Working with metals like this to display the natural materials excites me, and it makes me happy to know that others will appreciate the beauty in these materials too when they see our work.

This year I want to make more things that showcase these materials. I’d like to make wall pieces to be hung like paintings. I want to bring this subtle art in front of people who may otherwise never know how exciting these materials can be. With custom patina work, there is truly no limit to what could be created.

We’ve been hard at work on a large range of projects lately and some of the smaller projects can slip through unnoticed on our socials sometimes.

This one is a copper countertop with a hand applied acid etched patina. The process is often 2 steps forward 1 step back as we tease character and interesting features out of the material only to etch them away with the next layer. There are many ways to apply acid solutions and each can result in unique outcomes. Exploring patina work is always a labor of love.

Here’s a series of photos at varying steps of of the process as the acid develops, as the sheet is buffed down, and the product moves through each iteration of aging.

We enjoyed the vibrant turmeric yellow that developed on the sheet when the acid was first applied. Surprises are around every corner when we do patina work.
