We've actually had customers cancel their service on site when they realize we cut holes into the duct system, and I really do think it's because they think we're cutting into their furnace or going to damage the system. We're not! We're using tools specifically made for our service to cut several access points in the ductwork so we can safely open up the system for cleaning.

To access a duct system for a thorough air duct cleaning, cutting access holes into the galvanized steel ductwork is not only safe and legit, it's typically the only way to properly clean the system. (caveats would be slabs, flex duct, etc.. there's always exceptions to make sure no damage is done, but most systems that are fully metal ductwork will require us to cut these holes to get a full clean).

Shown here is an example of where our technicians cut these access holes (not in the furnace unit, in the ductwork directly connected to it) to hook our vacuum hose up. Upon completion, these holes will be covered with steel panels with beveled edges that will compress and seal it up tight.
