OHSAA APPROVES NIL
Ohio High School Athletes Can Now Profit From Their Name, Image & Likeness
The OHSAA has officially voted to allow high school athletes in Ohio to sign NIL deals, making the state the 45th in the nation to approve name, image and likeness opportunities.
Member schools passed the measure 447–121, immediately opening the door for athletes to earn money through endorsements, social-media promotions, appearances and other branding opportunities.
The vote was fast-tracked after a lawsuit filed on behalf of standout WR Jamier Brown challenged the previous ban. A court order temporarily allowed NIL activity, pushing OHSAA toward an early statewide vote.
Under the new rules, athletes can profit from their personal brand — but cannot use school logos, involve boosters, or receive pay-for-play compensation. All deals must be reported and follow OHSAA guidelines.
This decision marks a major shift in Ohio high school sports, giving student-athletes new control over their image and new financial opportunities moving.
