Thanks to your donations, we were able to help another breast cancer survivor! Lakesha was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2024 and is currently receiving treatment at Roper St. Francis Cancer Center in Charleston. Although she has health insurance, she is struggling to pay her bills and cover the costs of chemotherapy and deductibles. We were able to give her money to keep her lights on thanks to YOU!!! She asked to remain anonymous because not everyone in her family knew about her diagnosis, so we called her Ms. Lily after her favorite flower. Here is her story in her own words: "In 2011, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. By God's grace and mercy, I am still here; tattered and torn, but present and accounted for. I have been in active treatment since my diagnosis, but this cancer has slowed me down quite a bit. At first, I was able to work, but a few years ago I had to stop working. I have been on many treatments and experienced every side effect imaginable but I've fought my way through it all. Lately things haven't been looking as bright because I have pretty much exhausted all approved treatment options. BUT I HAVEN'T GIVEN UP YET."

So what dream did Ms. Lily want fulfilled? A trip to the beach, dinner at a 5 star restaurant, a front-row seat at a concert? Nope. Her dream was much simpler, and quite honestly, much more dire. Her wish was to have her funeral paid for so that her family didn't have to find the money to bury her. She didn't have life insurance and with her diagnosis, was unable to get any. Thanks to your donations, we were able to help pay for her funeral when she passed so her family didn't have grieve AND figure out how to pay the expenses.
