The herringbone bed is done! After a day of sanding and a couple days of applying finish it’s now in place. Very satisfied with how this one came out. Also some photos of a couple side tables from a little while ago. These were tests whether I preferred the chevron pattern or herringbone. And I got to mill the little cord keepers out of some brass stock I had on hand. Keeps charging cords nice and tidy.

As I wrote last post, I needed the side rails to appear to be the same thickness as the legs, and that would be evident once shaping took place. Well here we go. The legs get turned from squared corners into 1 1/2” rounds via a 3/4” roundover router bit on all sides. Where the side rails meet with the legs, I want the roundover profile to continue throughout the length of the bed. Ideally the transition from leg to rail is seamless, and that happens to be the case this time; thankfully.

Just shy of a weeks worth of cutting, gluing, planing and sanding and all sides of the head and footboards are ready for finish. As there was no real way to clamp each tile I knew there was going to be some heaving as the glue set as shown in the first picture. The worst of the pieces probably had to plane off 1/16”. That doesn’t sound like much but the pile of shavings says otherwise.

Latest items out of the shop. A set of 4 Danish-modern inspired counter height stools.
These are constructed of white oak (stained jet black) and Danish cord.
Each stool has roughly 325’ of Danish cord wrapped and woven to become the seat.
But that 325’ of paper cord is so comfortable.
I’d love the chance to make more of these (wink, wink, nudge nudge)
These would look stunning in unstained white oak or walnut. Black cord may also be an option (hard to tell with supply issues these days).
