Hi all,

If you have a child in that (1) will be entering 6th grade next fall or (2) is already in middle or high school for the next school year, THIS IS FOR YOU!

Every school district in the state of South Carolina will be implementing courses aligned with the new South Carolina College & Career Readiness (SCCCR) Standards for Mathematics. Here are a few of the changes:

1. Every math course from 6th grade and higher has new standards and grade level requirements from the previous standards.

2. There is now a 7th/8th Compacted Standards for both rising 7th and 8th graders.

3. There will be no more Probability & Statistics courses (12th grade class).

4. Geometry will now proceed Algebra 1, given to 9th graders, and includes statistics (Course: Geometry w/Statistics).

5. Algebra 1 will now be giving to 10th graders (prerequisite: Geometry w/Statistics).

6. Algebra 2 will now include Probability (Course: Algebra 2 w/Probability).

7. For students that not considered "College-Bound", there are 2 new courses that will be offered after Algebra 1: (1) Applications and Modeling and (2) Reasoning in Mathematics.

8. In addition to Pre-Calculus being offered after Algebra 2 w/Probability, the state has added two additional courses for "College-Bound" students to take: Statistical Modeling and Discrete Math.

We are considering offering a workshop (one Saturday in June 2025) for parents of middle- and high-school students for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year to better prepare for these changes. Please let us know if you are interested in attended.
