I didn’t grow up with a father. I had my grandfather some of my years but I never had the love of a natural father. When I first got married, I was looking for my husband to be that “father figure” and when that didn’t happen (he lost his father at an early age) it caused unnecessary issues in our growth as a couple. I was looking to him for something that he didn’t have the capacity to give nor was it his responsibility. Later in our marriage, I learned that the void that I had been searching for had to do with my relationship or lack thereof with God. Allowing Him to guide my growth and influence my actions taught me how to see God and my husband differently. Now, I’m not saying that I didn’t miss the love of a natural father but I didn’t allow not having that relationship hinder my relationship with my Heavenly Father or my husband.
