Precision Repair - Guitar and Stringed Instruments

Another post of one of those "long-term projects" that have been difficult to keep going as a constant due to the nature and size of the project. You fit them in where you can between the smaller and quicker stuff. Not the preferred way to go about things, but sometimes that's just how it goes. Thankfully, this customer is very patient, and it's very appreciated. And while there is still a way to go, it's finally closer to being done than not. It doesn't look like any pictures of this project have ever been posted, so here goes. The owner's friend had this guitar in their possession for decades, and treated it as his own, including "Van Halen-izing" before finally returning it. The job is to get it back to "like-new". The headstock binding was replaced, the entire guitar got stripped then sealed, painted white and clear-coated. Then the clear was sanded smooth and buffed out. Spraying guitars white is not fun! ;-) Now time for re-assembly.

Continuing on with the theme of getting out backlogged projects. Again, no in-process pictures, just end results. Difficult to see just what was done, but that was sorta the goal. ;-) The headstock broke off this banjo, and there was very little surface area for glue in the way it broke. It would have just broken again. So I removed about 50% of the wood at the cracked area, and glued in a filler piece, crossing the grain for strength. That pointy part of the back of the neck/headstock, that was all cut out, had the filler piece, and carved back to original shape, and resprayed. Look closely, and you'll see the seams of where the filler piece was glued. :-) Sometimes it's really hard to get good pictures of these things!!!
