The building is monitored for movement by 7 new seismic sensors that detect motion in all three axis. On the night of November 7th, the building recorded the an event that registered 3.7 in magnitude located just 18 miles from campus. Below is a snapshot of the data the sensors caught during the shake. The sensors, provided through a grant with the Alaska Earthquake Center , will give structural engineers a glimpse at building reactions and movement. The data will be used to improve the survivability of future structures and hopefully prevent devastating loss of life.
