Happy Juneteenth! Today we celebrate freedom, Black joy, and the spirit of generations. On this day in 1865, the last enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after emancipation had been declared, and that freedom is worth honoring every single year.

So much of this country's agricultural wealth was built on the stolen labor of enslaved Black people, and the legacy of that injustice still shapes who owns land, who farms it, and who has access to good food today. Honoring Juneteenth means reckoning with that history and working toward a food system where Black farmers and communities can thrive on their own terms.

One meaningful way to honor this day is to support the work directly. We encourage you to make a donation to the Black Farmer Fund , which invests in Black farmers and food entrepreneurs across our region.

Juneteenth is both a celebration and a call. We honor the day, and we keep building toward a more just and equitable food system for all.
