This place is otherworldly! 👽

Hidden within the El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve in San Mateo County stands a rare sandstone rock formation called the Tafoni Sandstone that belongs in the scene of fantasy film. Just an hour south of San Francisco, take the Sierra Morena Trail for a 2.5-mile round trip hike in the Santa Cruz Mountains to see one of the coolest rock formations I have ever seen.

You may not like this rock if you have trypophobia or fear of clusters of small holes as there are thousands of small holes in the sandstone rock that may be uncomfortable for you to look at. You can add more to the hike and take the Resolution Trail you can visit a plane crash site from 1953 which is crazy.

Enjoy the hike and, as always, leave no trace. Don’t be a POS and ruin natural wonders.
