⚡ Ice Storm Electrical Safety Tips

🔌 Before & During the Storm
• Avoid downed power lines – Always assume they are live and dangerous.
• Stay away from sagging or ice-covered lines – Ice adds weight and can cause lines to snap suddenly.
• Unplug sensitive electronics to prevent damage from power surges.
• Use flashlights, not candles to reduce fire risk.
• Keep phones and battery packs charged in case of outages.

• Never run generators indoors, in garages, or near windows/doors – Carbon monoxide can be deadly.
• Always shut off the main breaker before using a generator to prevent backfeeding and protect linemen.
• Use heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cords only.
