This is EXACTLY why I only use portable external drives. Cloud storage is another digital “Rented Land.” And as Author Jason K Pargin points out, Microsoft is doing something far more nefarious: Signing you up for something, no questions asked, and punishing you like a bunch of mobsters for opting out.
“Never build your business on only Rented Land.” This goes with social media, or any digital service that you yourself do not own. And it appears even having a hard drive for your own computer isn’t even your own anymore.
Backing up your files is a common business practice, but it looks like it’s now a must for anyone who needs to save their own personal media.
