⚖️ Sports law’s biggest stage was in Chicago, the 2026 Sports Lawyers Association Conference did not disappoint!
More than 1,200 professionals gathered for the 2026 Sports Lawyers Association Annual Conference, setting a new attendance record and bringing together attorneys, law students, professors, and industry leaders from across the sports landscape.
One of the conference’s most notable milestones was the continued growth of the Women’s Breakfast, which welcomed more than 200 attendees and reflected the increasing presence and influence of women throughout the sports law profession.
🎙️ The conference opened with a “Pathways to Sports Law” panel moderated by Aaron Hernandez, Assistant Dean and Executive Director of the Allan “Bud” Selig Sports Law and Business Program at Arizona State University.
Panelists included:
🏈 George McCaskey, Chairman, Chicago Bears
⚽ Logan Deeney, Senior Legal Counsel, Orlando City SC & Orlando Pride
⚾ Meghan Pirics, Senior Counsel, Milwaukee Brewers
🏈 Kaleisha Stuart, Deputy General Counsel, Dallas Cowboys
💡 A few standout insights from the discussion:
👉 Learn all the opportunities to be a lawyer, not just in a team’s legal department, but there are roles with law firms and other roles around sport needing the skills of lawyers.
👉 Develop strong relationship skills. The panel even recommended that good litigation attorneys have a nice rapport with opposing counsel!
👉 Be a good story teller. While it looks like trial attorneys come up with their opening or closing statements off the cuff, they are well rehearsed. Good story-telling is valuable in interviews as well.
If you are a law student or a lawyer seeking to get into the Sports Business, we strongly encourage you to join the Sports Lawyers Association. Membership carries our TeamWorkU benefits.
