The African American Museum of Cleveland, the first independent African American Museum in the Americas, was founded by Icabod Flewellen in 1953 and seeks to preserve Black culture and heritage. As a place of culture, the museum's exhibits are an educational resource, providing the community, the city, the state and the country, with a true glimpse of Africa and African Americans...yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
