The time for change was decades ago when Black women and mamas were being forcibly sterilized. The time for change was when states began finding ways to circumvent Roe v. Wade, even when abortion was legal. The time for change has passed. Now is the time for transformation. For innovation. For respect.
The status quo did not serve us before the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and it isn’t serving us now. Vice President Kamala Harris sat down with Keke Palmer for the ESSENCE Festival of Culture this week. While we applaud VP Harris for being outspoken about the drastic overreach of the Supreme Court, additional action is required. Being outspoken is no longer enough – abortion access MUST be codified into law at the federal level to protect and save lives.
