The 2024 State of Obesity Report: Key Takeaways 10/22/2024

Hey, I just read the following article (The 2024 State of Obesity Report: Key Takeaways). I was moved by the findings of this report, so I'm sharing this with all my friends, who are parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and neighbors so that we can all be aware that the health and well-being of our children are heading in the wrong direction.

Our children's health is in jeopardy. The good news is that we can do something about the direction they are headed. It is up to us, not just our Schools and Healthcare providers. We, as parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and neighbors, can be the catalyst of change and influence over our children's behavior, and we can do it now.

All adults need to be an example of what good choices look like. Choose to be physically active and eat sensibly/healthy. Choose to involve your children in your chosen physical activity. Choose to encourage your children to play and have fun moving. Choose to take your children to the playgrounds. Choose to introduce them to fun physical activities. A healthy and fit child and adult are happier because they have more energy and greater confidence, leading to high degrees of achievement and taking on challenges with a positive mindset. We have to do a better job setting up our children for success.

"The 2024 State of Obesity report underscores the urgency of addressing the obesity epidemic in America. The data speaks for itself: obesity rates are climbing, and the consequences are far-reaching—from healthcare costs to national security. While much of the focus has been on nutrition and food access, we cannot overlook physical activity's crucial role in preventing and treating obesity.

At ActivSport Advisory, we collaborate with communities, schools, and healthcare providers to create programs and environments that promote active, healthy lifestyles. It's time to act—our health, economy, and future depend on it."

And, somehow or another, we must involve parents in the process. Parents must lead by example. If parents are physically active, their children will likely be also. So, include your children (provided they are of a capable age or physically able) in your daily physical activity. For example, if you like to run, take them to a local track and let them run with you even if they don't run the total distance; a little is a lot when pointing them in the right direction. Bring your kids with you if you enjoy kayaking, hiking, swimming, lifting weights, or whatever activity. Let them watch or participate. Kids tend to mimic those whom they love and respect. Let them observe your healthy behaviors.

Random thought of the day.

I am not a very good wordsmith, so I hope this thought as written resonates with anyone who reads it. I know this sentiment has been said before by many other, in many other ways, but this is my thought, expressed as best I can.

No matter who is elected to govern, no matter the family or wealth you were born into, or lack therof, nothing anybody else does will assure that you thrive (*prosper; flourish).

In order for any individual to thrive, they must choose to strive ("make great efforts to achieve or obtain something").

Policies, rules, laws, are like a trail, a path, for which there are many. Not all lead to the summit. It is up to every individual to choose the correct path that lead to the summit they desire to reach (there are many summits). Once the path is chosen, you must then begin the arduous task of moving along that path (striving), where you will learn many lessons and grow in character, as you move closer to the summit, where you will ultimately prosper and flourish!

The only way any individual can prosper and flourish is to make great efforts. No one else can do for you that which only you can do for yourself.

It ain't easy, there's a mountain to be climbed before we can prosper. Start your climb and strive to reach the summit and don't look back, stay focused on the task and continue to climb.
