Today (3/14) is the International Day of Mathematics or Pi day. This is so because 3.14 is the familiar approximation of the math constant pi.

The name pi was introduced about 300 years ago, but the idea of pi is known for over 4000 years now. What is the idea of pi? It is that if you take any circle, its circumference to diameter ratio is about 3.14.

Incidentally, today is also the birthday of the noted physicist, Albert Einstein.
