In Deuteronomy 8:18, "the power” to get wealth is not serendipitous. It means God's given ability, capacity, strength, wisdom, opportunity, favour, discipline, and productive skills.

God gives us the capacity to produce, create, build, trade, manage, multiply, and sustain wealth.
Through the following methods:
1. Mental power: Wisdom, ideas, creativity, strategy, discernment, business ideas and problem-solving abilities.

2. Physical power: Strength, health, energy, skill, endurance and the ability to work.

3. Relational power:
Favour with people, access to helpers, customers, mentors, partners, and networks.

4. Opportunity power:
Open doors, timing, platforms, markets, land, contracts, jobs and positions.

5. Character power:
Discipline, patience, honesty, diligence, consistency, humility, and self-control.

6. Spiritual power: A close relationship with God,
God’s blessing, direction, protection, grace, and covenant backing.

So the verse does not mean God merely drops wealth into the palm of our hands. He gives us the ability to get wealth. There is still work to do, we have to do the thinking, be diligent, obedient and serve.

Proverbs 10:4
“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.”

Proverbs 22:29
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings.”

In a nutshell; The power to make wealth is the God-given ability to recognize opportunities around us, apply wisdom, work productively, manage our resources well, and produce increase.
