Today's Mentor Spotlight is City Of Cincinnati Government!

City of Cincinnati joined our program in 2023 and now has 27 mentor teams representing departments including Cincinnati Fire Department, Cincinnati Parks, Cincinnati Police Department, Greater Cincinnati Water Works, & Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati - MSD! Throughout the past school year, city departments ranging from Finance and Buildings & Inspections to the Budget & City Manager's Office, Law, Human Resources, and more have made an impact across 18 Cincinnati Public Schools.

Some of their visits from the past school year include:
- City of Cincinnati Law brought their Cincinnati's School for Creative and Performing Arts 6th graders on a field trip to the Hamilton County Courthouse where they did a mock trial. 🧑‍⚖️
- City of Cincinnati Finance partnered with Hartwell Middle School's 6th grade students to explore budgeting and financial responsibility by assigning each student a career and corresponding salary. 💰
- Cincinnati Parks introduced Mt. Airy School's 4th grade students to the art of cyanotype printing! Students witnessed the chemical reaction of sunlight on specially treated paper before using plants and leaves to create their own unique prints. 🌿

To wrap up the school year, all City of Cincinnati mentor teams came together for a large career exploration field trip, giving students the opportunity to discover the many career paths available within the City. Today's Mentor Spotlight is Cincinnati Observatory!

Since joining our program in 2021, Cincinnati Observatory has impacted more than 350 students through group mentorship at Woodford Academy and Sayler Park School. Beyond the classroom, they have partnered with us to host more than 765 fourth-grade students from Northern and Central Cincinnati for Career Connected Field Trips. During these visits, students explore telescopes, learn about space and astronomy, and discover the many careers that make scientific discovery possible.

Recently, students put on their science hats and explored all things space! Observatory staff challenged their knowledge of the planets while leading engaging discussions about astronomy, space crystals, and our solar system. 🚀
