We hate to say "we told you so," but...

According to the Wall Street Journal, SpaceX actively recruits Formula SAE students because they value hands-on engineering experience and proven problem-solving skills.

In other news, water remains wet.

We've been making this case for nearly 30 years.

Formula SAE students don't just study engineering—they live it. They design, manufacture, test, fail, fix, iterate, and compete. They learn how to work as a team, manage deadlines, solve problems with limited resources, and deliver a functioning product when it matters.

Those are exactly the skills that translate into successful engineering careers, whether you're building race cars, rockets, or the next generation of embedded electronics.

That's why we've always been proud to support Formula SAE teams, and why we'll continue to champion hands-on engineering education.

After celebrating SpaceX’s initial public offering with colleagues, Bill Riley plans to pack his bags for a trip to Brooklyn, Mich.

Riley, a top engineering executive at the company, will serve as chief design judge for a race at Michigan International Speedway, according to Chris Ciuca, a vice president at the nonprofit that organizes the event. The competition doesn’t involve professional drivers speeding around the track—it will feature college students racing Formula One-style cars they designed and built over months.

The SpaceX executive’s ties to the competition are linked to his time on Cornell University’s Formula SAE team in the late 1990s. And he’s not the only one at Elon Musk’s space and artificial-intelligence enterprise. SpaceX executives Mark Juncosa and Mike Nicolls also cut their engineering teeth making student race cars at Cornell in the early 2000s.

“Race cars and rockets are not that dissimilar,” Riley, 49 years old, once told an interviewer for the Ivy League school’s magazine.

The Cornell connection at SpaceX is striking, but it also reflects the company’s longstanding commitment to hiring people steeped in practical skills, and not just prowess in the classroom.

📸 Confession time...

We don't always come home from race weekends with a lot of photos.

Usually we're busy manning the booth, answering questions, helping customers, selling a little merch, and keeping up with everything happening around the track. And let's be honest, we also try to sneak in some time to watch some great racing (and occasionally partake in a few track snacks 🌭🍿).

Every once in a while, we're even lucky enough to end up in a photo instead of standing behind the camera!

Now that the racetrack dust has settled, we're excited to share a few more moments from an incredible weekend at The Big Dance. A huge thank you to Shocktography for sending over these great shots and helping us relive a fantastic weekend at US 24 Speedway.

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by the booth, chatted with us, and made the event one to remember. We can't wait to do it again next year!
