The lunette ring and hand-spike ring are fitted to the rear end of the trail. I also located the seat hinges and seat turnbuckle and pilot drilled the screw holes for them.
Once that was done, I used my floor jack and an extra chunk of wood to raise the axle to the height it would be when supported by the wheels, as they hadn't arrived yet. The reason for this was to ensure that the bedplate/yoke mounting surface was parallel to the ground. Using a level I marked a cut line and band-sawed the excess off and finished it with a belt sander and a square.

Sorry for the delay in posting pics of the carriage build. These will get us started. First is the axle and axle tree. The axle is 2 x 2 steel tubing with 1/4 wall thickness. The tapered axle stubs are welded in. The wood axle tree is a solid chunk of ash.
The trail stock is also a solid chunk of ash. In this photo the basic shape of the trail has been cut on the bandsaw and the sanding needed to bring it to final size and shape has been started.
