From our experience, specifically the feedback we have received from our providers, these are the main reasons as to why passionate providers choose to pursue Locum positions.

By deciding to be a Locum Tenen, providers allow themselves to choose their own schedule. You can take a break in between contracts to travel or spend time with family. You can also specify whether or not you wish to do block scheduling, rather than the classic Monday through Friday schedule. There is ample room for flexibility and autonomy of your schedule, so you can live your life outside of work, as well as continue to provide exceptional patient care.

Locums allow for the opportunity to explore new places across the country for short, or long periods of time. Want to check out San Diego for a few months? Or perhaps Seattle? You can do that!

Deciding to take on a permanent position at a facility you have not worked at before, or know little to nothing about, is inherently daunting. As a Locum Tenen, you get the opportunity to dip your toe into what it is like to work at a certain hospital or clinic without making a long term commitment. It is also not uncommon for Locum positions to lead to permanent ones, so if you love your Locum job, you may be able to stay there!

Locum positions typically pay more than permanent ones, and because each contract varies, you can pick and choose the ones with your desired compensation rate.

Politics run rampant in every industry, and hospitals/clinics are no exception. As a Locum provider, you can distance yourself from unwarranted drama due to you being there only temporarily.
