CDA Chico

This is what a great evening looks like. A crowd of 500 filled the Chico Elks Lodge to the gills at the CDA Chico Chapter Banquet and Auction on Saturday night. Thank you to the sponsors, the attendees and all who donated items. We're still tallying up the totals but it's a good bet our area raised six figures for conservation and habitat projects for our state's deer and other wildlife. Thank you all.

The annual CDA Chico Chapter Banquet and Auction is recognized statewide for its incredible raffle prizes and auction items. Case in point: The Golden Opportunity Deer Tag.

The special fundraising tag, provided by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, is a highlight among the hundreds of auction and raffle items at the dinner, scheduled for Saturday, March 15, at the Chico Elks Lodge.

The tag is a golden ticket, allowing the purchaser to hunt statewide on any lands legally open to deer hunting. The tagholder may take any legal buck, using any legal method of take. Proceeds from the sale go to the DFW for its wildlife programs.

The Park Fire continues to rage, burning more than 370,000 acres in Butte and Tehama counties. The loss of more than 100 structures is devastating. So is the loss of some beautiful wide open spaces, including the Tehama Wildlife Area, Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve, Ishi Wilderness and other wintering spots for our eastern Tehama deer herd. These are places we hiked, fished, camped and hunted -- or sometimes just drove around, enjoying the beauty of it all. In the comments here, please post a favorite picture of those amazing places.
