Familiar with California’s Medicare Birthday Rule? The Birthday Rule allows Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policyholders to switch plans without medical underwriting around their birthday each year. Here are the key details:

Who is eligible? California residents already enrolled in a Medigap plan.

When does it apply? You have 60 days from your birthday to switch plans.

What can you do? You can switch to another Medigap plan of equal or lesser benefits from any carrier without having to go through medical underwriting (i.e., no health questions or denial for preexisting conditions).

This rule makes it easier for Medicare beneficiaries to find a more affordable plan or switch to a provider with better service without worrying about their health status.
