The cats (and our wildlife) just can't catch a break. First the high heat and now the smoke from the Canadian wild fires is so overwhelming and dangerous. I couldn't even handle it for a few minutes and was having trouble breathing.

I was desperately trying to get my old man feral, Peanut Butter, in a trap, but he wouldn't go for it and I was so worried about his lungs and that they wouldn't be able to handle this thick smoke much more and that there was going to be some lasting smoke inhalation damage/effects. So I was spent a good portion of time trying to corral him in and I got so sick I almost threw up and now have a horrible headache. But I took a break, went in and got wet paper towels and put them over my nose and tied a scarf around my face. After about 40min, I finally got him 30 minutes ago.

He's extremely stressed out, bringing him inside scares him. And sometimes I wonder if I'm doing more harm than good, but there is just no way us old timers can endure this smoke. So I transferred him to a fat cat trap and he is just going to have to make due for one more day until the dangerous air quality numbers drop. The air quality report shows that it's hazardous out there and no one should be outside without a mask. He doesn't have that option, nor do the other animals.

I hope to gawd, there aren't people out there allowing their friendly cats to free roam in this, that is down right cruel.

Please be careful out there. Hopefully, we get a break from all this nonsense soon.

We haven't had a single foster inquiry for Saturday, and we're starting to worry.

We know it's summertime. People are enjoying going on vacations, attending barbecues, festivals, and soaking up every bit of sunshine. We get it! But while everyone is out enjoying summer, Saturday is still waiting for someone to say, "She can stay with me."

We promise you, Saturday won't be much of a bother. She's incredibly sweet and easy to love. We promise you, you'll be so glad you opened your home to her.

Fostering changes lives and right now, Saturday is counting on someone to give her that chance (she's fully vetted too!).

We are officially looking for a foster home, or even a foster‑to‑adopt home, for Saturday, one of the most resilient and joy‑filled cats we’ve ever had in our care.

It’s hard to believe that just 51 days ago, Saturday was dying. She had been trapped inside an abandoned building with no food, no water, and no way out. She was severely jaundiced (fatty liver disease), dehydrated, emaciated, and barely able to lift her head. Her survival was uncertain.

But Saturday chose life, and she has fought for it every single day since.

Today, she is full of s***k, sweetness, and personality. She’s the kind of cat who makes you smile the moment you walk into the room. Saturday is a total lovebug who wants pets, pets, and… more pets. She’s constantly making happy feet, rubbing all over your legs, and asking for affection in the cutest ways.

She’s also a huge fan of wand toys and has discovered that playing is her new favorite hobby. Her joy, her energy, and her resilience are honestly inspiring.

Because Saturday came to us in such critical condition, we’ve kept her separate from the other cats in her foster home to give her the calm, quiet environment she needed to heal. For that reason, we aren’t entirely sure how she is with other cats. We do think she could be okay with slow, proper introductions, but she would also be perfectly happy as an only pet. She’s the kind of cat who thrives on human affection and would love being someone’s one‑and‑only.

Saturday has survived the unimaginable. Now she deserves a home where she can finally exhale, stretch out, play, and be adored the way she always should have been.

When you are finally settling in for the evening and your phone lights up with a weather alert saying tomorrow is going to be 107 degrees, everything in you shifts. My brain goes straight into crazy lady worry overdrive. I start thinking about every animal out there with no water, no shelter, no shade. How are they supposed to get through that kind of heat. Then I worry about my own ferals and strays, because they depend on me, and extreme weather does not care how prepared you try to be.

All I can do is put out plenty of water everywhere and create as many shaded, airy spaces as possible so they have somewhere to cool off. Most of my ferals do not show up until after sunset around 8:30pm central time, except Peanut Butter who is here full time (unless he goes off to visit his buddies).

And of course that is when the protective momma mode kicks in. Peanut Butter is ten years old and does not look a day over eight months. I just could not stand the thought of him trying to survive 107 degree heat, so I trapped him and brought him inside. He will stay indoors all week between the heat wave and the Fourth of July chaos. I will return him to the yard on Sunday when things calm down.

He was not thrilled and complained at me like only Peanut Butter can, but I told him it is for his own good. This kind of heat is too much for any animal, and everything I do for him is out of love.

I cannot wait for this weather to go back to normal again.

This Father's Day was extra special as our sweet Master Biscuit officially found his forever home!

From the moment his new mom met him, there was an instant connection. She completely fell in love and, when adoption day finally arrived, was brought to tears knowing he was officially hers forever. His new dad was just as smitten, making this the purrfect Father's Day gift and the start of an exciting new chapter for their family.

Master Biscuit, now officially known as Pablo, is settling into his new home where he'll have a little-big sister, Paloma, to chase, wrestle, and parkour across the house with. We have a feeling these two are going to become the best of friends and keep Mom and Dad on their toes!

Stories like this remind us that sometimes the right family and the right cat find each other exactly when they're meant to.
