I started Flying Start, LLC in 2019 with the desire to incorporate real-life, real-work, and real-learning opportunities into public school classrooms by connecting schools with small business owners to complete design, technology, and communication tasks.

Under the excellent tutelage of Chicago’s 1871, I built Flying Start from an idea to an actual business that was beginning to gain traction.

Then came cancer and almost simultaneously, the SARS-Covid19 pandemic. Flying Start pivoted (the word of 2020) to an online learning platform, which turned out to be quite perfect for the times. It was entirely unexpected, but absolutely wonderful. I loved being able to work with so many learners around the world.

I built out an entire online learning platform, GetAFlyingStart.com, and an app in order to serve my learners. However, a few weeks ago, my website went down, and down HARD. I built it, but I have no idea how to fix it. I’ve decided to ditch the site for now, which I am sad about because it was a lot of work.

However, Flying Start continues- and thrives- as an education company. I will continue to produce books, apps, and other content under the Flying Start name. For teaching, I’ve returned to using Outschool as my learning hub. Happily, this cuts down on expenses, lets me focus on teaching, and gives me a broader audience. DBA Karrin Burns on Outschool, I continue to connect with learners all over the world through my classes, which include maths from PK- Algebra.
