Parents and children deserve a safe place to heal.

"Growing up, I felt like I had to hold my problems in," said Jasmine, a mother at our Mitzi Freidheim Child and Family Center on Chicago’s South Side. "But now, I'm learning to better speak my mind. Now I will speak up."

Jasmine is one of the parents participating in Bright Futures, a unique mental health therapy program that supports both parents and children in the early learning centers they already know and trust.

Over the past three years, Bright Futures has helped families strengthen relationships and process trauma through on-site child-parent psychotherapy at five of Brightpoint's Illinois early childhood and education centers.

Healing takes courage. And when parents heal, children can thrive.

We’re thrilled to share that Brightpoint was one of the five awardees for Start Early’s Universal Newborn Support Systems (UNSS) community feasibility assessments!

What does that mean exactly?

It means we’re assessing the feasibility of a powerful new home visiting program in our Brightpoint Southern Region, which serves families in the St. Louis Metro East region. In partnership with the East Side Health District, we are convening focus groups and collecting data with key partners, including maternal health providers, hospitals, early childhood systems, and perinatal/postpartum families, to assess the need in St. Clair County. This work continues through December.

UNSS provides free, voluntary short-term home visits and referral services to every family after the birth of a new baby. This program would complement our existing home visiting programs and grow our ability to connect families to other needed services.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity, and thrilled to explore this possibility alongside our partners and families.
