The New York Philharmonic does not have an established summer home, so they perform at a few different venues over the summer. After a few June concerts in NY’s five boroughs, they are in Vail, Colorado (after Philadelphia’s residency) starting on July 22nd with this program.

The Cleveland Orchestra has for many years spent their summer at the Blossom Festival, which is 25 miles south of Cleveland in the heart of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Here is their first concert, an all-American one, which is on July 3rd.

The Boston Symphony has had a summer home at the Tanglewood Festival for many, many years. This is their first summer concert program on July 5.

I thought it would be interesting to see what the “Big Five” American orchestras are doing for their opening concerts this summer. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra begins its summer residency on July 11 with this program and guest artists, conducted by Marin Alsop. I have posted about the other four orchestras separately.
