Hidden in the Gold Coast is Wooden Alley, one of the last surviving wooden-paved streets in the city. Long before asphalt and concrete became the norm, Chicago used wooden blocks to pave streets because they were quieter for 🐴 horse-drawn carriages and easier to repair.
Today, only a small piece of that history remains.🥹
