On May 14, 2026, the U.S. Department of Labor removed the 2024 overtime rule from federal regulations.
The federal salary threshold for many white-collar overtime exemptions is now back to $684 per week, or $35,568 per year.
That means “salaried” alone does not explain your overtime situation. Your classification matters: exempt or nonexempt. Before saying yes, ask: “What is the typical weekly schedule?” “Is this role exempt or nonexempt?” “How are extra hours handled?”
