Moot Court is a honors program where students write appellate briefs and deliver oral arguments in competitions across the country. It's also a great way to get involved in the John Marshall community. As an honors program, it will instantly improve your resume and job marketability.

Congratulations to Melisa Hood and Hyrum LaTurner, who this past weekend became national Semi-Finalists in the Hennessey Employee Benefits Moot Court Competition. The event is sponsored by the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and hosted by Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C. The team was coached by Adjunct Professor Mark Debofsky. We are so proud of you!

Congratulations to the three teams that competed in the Native American Law Competition!

Team 1 included Maria Conversa & Logan Quan who were coached by Honorable Raymond McKoski.

Team 2 included Rachel Jacob & Ashley Schoenborn who were coached by James Borkman.

Team 3 included Tina Butler & Alyssa Kaprinski who were coached by Christoper Evers.

The teams advanced to the Sweet 16 round with 72 teams in the competition! Congratulations, we are proud of you all!

This past weekend UIC JMLS sent two teams to compete in the ABA Appellate Moot Court Competition. This year’s topic involved civil rights law.

Team 1 included Hudson Cross, Ben Goodman, and Courtney Krznarich.

Team 2 included Erin Murphy, Kelsi Rider, and Allison Trendle.

The teams were coached by Professor Hodge and Monica Smit. Congratulations on all your hard work!

Congratulations to Kayla Bowden and Destinee Burrell, who won Best Petitioner's Brief and were Quarter-Finalists in the Midwest Black Law Students Association regional of the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition. This is the second year in a row that UIC John Marshall Law School has brought home the Best Brief award; last year, Destinee and partner Kimberly Cross did the honors.

The issue concerned prisoner rights, and the team was coached by Alexis Carr, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney/Civil Rights Torts Unit. Thanks also to mooters Magistrate Judge Beth Jantz, Northern District of Illinois; Professor Steve Schwinn; Sharon Cannon, Chief of Staff UIC John Marshall; Adjunct Professors Andrew Lambertson and Christina Faklis-Adair; and practitioners Mallory Littlejohn, Legal Director of Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation and Danielle Berkowsky, Uptown People's Law Office.
