Khecari transforms the theatrical experience from the familiar to the unexpected through the creation of provocative dance works investigating perceptions and intersections of self, relationships and uncertainty.

After our deep dives into the artistic processes and presentations of “as though your body were right”& “Tend”, Khecari has entered into a planned YEAR OF INCUBATION to make way for something new in our studio process and admin practice.

Every seven years or so we settle into an incubation period. It is a necessary place of rest and reset. Of focus and diffusion. We pare down administrative operations to minimal life support systems and press pause on the demands of our production calendars.

We prioritize the core of our mission: being in the studio daily, engaging in research, conversing, improvising, and choreographing.

We want to stay engaged with you in this period of incubation but most likely won’t be showing up on this platform. If you would like to come visit us, please do.

If you would like to dream with us and plan for something fresh, let’s talk. But we probably won’t be spending our energy on hustling up a crowd, just following spontaneous connection and genuine interest.

In a field that has always been under-resourced and imbalanced in our country and grows more so each day, in a culture that demands the arts justify themselves with utility, superiority complexes, or economic relevance, there is a nearly inexorable pull back to admin, fundraising, promotion, product production and perfection. During our Year of Incubation, we will do our best to resist that gravity. We will do our best to make time to speculate and ruminate, to wander and watch, to protect these hatchlings as they find their way towards… what they will.

We are all learning, hopefully, to caretake ourselves and each other in such adverse times. In an age that can feel like a clarion call to armoring, to distancing, let us protect the fecund germens of our vulnerability and somatic interconnectedness.

I remember filling out the application to be a resident artist at Links Hall in 2003 sitting at a café in Paris, escaping a turbulant stint in Brooklyn, some sunny years in Los Angeles, and having just finished performances with cie Felix Ruckert in a pool in Brussels. Popping from one thing to the next, I got the acceptance from Links and found a place to throw down roots. It's hard to feel these roots from the initial plant dissolving, but I know that the many artists who have had a home at Links have created new places and spaces and dances and communities and experiments and collectives and the essence of Links Hall will live on in that canopy.

We'll be at DUSK tomorrow doing our last dance at Links at 2pm. See you there. (I might need a hug)
