In 2022, former Pullman workers Al and Ray Quiroz visited Chicago Union Station for an emotional reunion with the "George M. Pullman," one of the last railcars they helped build more than 40 years earlier at the Pullman factory. During their visit, the brothers were interviewed by FOX 32, sharing memories of their years on the shop floor and the pride they took in building railcars that carried generations of travelers across America.

This year's Railroad Days at Pullman National Historical Park on July 25-26 offers another opportunity to experience Pullman's remarkable railcar legacy. Visitors can step inside the 1926 Pullman-built Illinois Central electric cars, explore other historic railroad equipment, and discover the stories of the workers, like Al and Ray, whose craftsmanship helped shape American railroading.

There’s a quiet turn in this house where the story rises.

This staircase, leading to the third floor of a worker’s cottage in Pullman National Historical Park, was built in 1881 by the same artisans who crafted Pullman train cars. The curve of the banister and the precision of the woodwork reflect the same skill they brought to rail travel.

In their own homes, they built with just as much care.
