Learn Scuba Chicago was started in a garage around 2008 by Bob Huff. Initially, the plan was to run a dive boat in Lake Michigan and teach a little. Then, we started to multiply like snails and dance like sea horses. Years swam by, one compressor, then two. The staff of 7, 14, 20 something just kept growing. The garage became a warehouse and morphed into a storefront. We added equipment, gear, and
accessories from companies such as ScubaMax, ScubaPro, GoPro, and more. Sprinkle a bit of travel, some lake Michigan wreck dives, add water, and here we are. Over the years, we chased our collective interests in scuba themes: teaching, working with Vets, disabled divers, and youth, cool gear, traveling, camping, and adventure. It's been a typhoon of excitement. Many fins have come, several have stuck, and a few have swum along - but in the end, it's harder to understand or classify us than it is coral. We are teens to fifties, students and professionals, the lost, the reborn, the ones with a plan, the ones without a clue, conservative, liberal, crazy, sane, parents, and children - we are you. If you cannot relate to 6 LSC staffers, you need some deep water meditation time. In 2013, we discovered that we weren't rich - monetarily. And that didn't bother us - it inspired us. By the end of 2014, LSC emerged as an official not-for-profit organization. Because that's what we are about. We are all about having fun, saving the Earth, saving you through scuba if you need it, and working with the ones that protect us at night and those less fortunate than us. We are all about diving with you and diving with each other - simply put, we are an eclectic group of individuals building our reef based here in Chicago - one we hope will be explored and inhabited for centuries to come.
